Sore Eyes – Sudden or Gradual?
Eye discomfort can happen suddenly, like after a splash of cleaning product, or gradually, such as dry, scratchy sensations over weeks.
Sudden Sore Eyes
Sudden soreness may be caused by:
- Foreign bodies (dust, sand, metal)
- Chemical exposure
- Infections like conjunctivitis
If you experience severe pain, vision changes, or suspect a chemical injury, seek immediate care.
Gradual Sore Eyes
Gradual discomfort often results from:
- Dry eye disease
- Blepharitis (lid inflammation)
- Allergies or environmental irritants
At VISION Michael Hare Optometrists, we’ll assess your symptoms and may recommend:
- Dry eye treatments (Blephasteam, Blephex, IPL, LLLT)
- Lid hygiene routines
- Artificial tears or medicated drops
What to Expect at Your Appointment:
- A detailed history of symptoms
- Slit lamp examination
- Tear film assessment
- Meibography (if needed)
When to Book
For sudden onset symptoms, book an urgent appointment. For gradual symptoms, aim to schedule within a week to avoid complications.
