Jonathan McCorriston, Optometrist
Jonathan entered optometry as a mature‑age student, having worked across retail, manufacturing, and self-employment while raising a young family. He joined the team in 2007 and became a partner in 2022. In 2010, he received the Eyecare Plus Professional Recognition Award for outstanding care and trained at Essilor University in Paris.
Jonathan went on to further study, completing his graduate certificate in ocular therapeutics in 2012. He has practised in myopia control since graduating, with a particular focus on orthokeratology—custom overnight lenses that offer glasses-free days while helping manage progression in children and teens. He also supports patients with amblyopia and low vision.
Known for his clear communication and practical, patient-first approach, Jonathan ensures every visit is grounded in understanding. He hosts optometry students from multiple Australian universities, helping shape the next generation of clinicians.
Beyond optometry, Jonathan is usually wielding a hammer, spanner, garden rake or a bass trombone. He previously served as bandmaster for the Southport Salvation Army Band as well as a couple of seasons as the Bass Trombonist in the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra.
He and his wife Julie have three adult children, a grandchild, (and a labrador) and a busy and fulfilling life beyond the clinic.
